The Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services, seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an (Adult Protective Services Supervisor - Hotline ) with the (Centra Intake Unit). DAAS supports at-risk Arizonans to meet their basic needs and to live safely, with dignity and independence. Services and programs reach a diverse population of Arizonans.
This position directs and supervises a work unit of Adult Protective Services (APS) professional and support staff ensuring compliance with federal and state statutes, rules & regulations, and policy & procedures which mandate receipt and evaluation of reports of abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation of vulnerable and incapacitated adults, 18 years of age or older. Ensure staff follow additional mandates offering protective services and filing of petitions as necessary. Provides community awareness and education regarding APS' role and responsibilities, mandatory reporting law and the APS Appeals Process and Registry. In-state travel is required. Flexibility in willingness to work longer shift hours or after-hours coverage, if necessary. Travel is required for State business.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (1-2 days per week in the office).
Job Duties:
- Provide leadership, mentoring, coaching, and direct supervision of subordinate staff.
- Complete Performance Appraisals, authorize leave, approve timecards, recommend and issue disciplinary action, as appropriate.
- Evaluate workflow and formulate process improvement plans.
- Assign new cases for investigation and support services.
- Utilize database reports system for monitoring case work activities and determining appropriate action.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Case management and social work practices and principles (e.g., aging and elder rights, psychological abuse, perpetrator characteristics, adult maltreatment, etc.).
- Social, intellectual and behavioral problems of vulnerable or incapacitated adults, the aging process and counseling techniques.
- Cultural, environmental and community influences on behavior, human growth and development needs.
Skills in:
- Oral and written communication and active listening.
- Time management and organization.
- Team building & conflict resolution techniques.
- Assessing and evaluating community and public policy.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain working relationships with leadership, division management and internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage, plan and organize staff assignments and workload.
- Communicate and interact effectively with various ethnic groups within the community.
- Effectively deal with irate or hostile internal and external customers.
Selective Preferences:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, Rehabilitation, Criminal Justice or closely related field and 2 years professional case management/investigation exp. (Intake, Needs Assessment, Service Planning, and Monitoring and Evaluation); OR
- 1 year as a Human Svc Spct 3 in AZ State Government; OR
- 4 years exp. providing professional case activities noted above. Prefer supervisory experience.
